Alfonso d'Este, in Ferrara, writes to Beltrame Costabili, in Rome: he will accept Raphael's cartoon of the Saint Michael, but the painter will have to deliver the painting for the Duke as soon as possible.

V. di farlo acconciare in modo che ‘l non si possa bagnare né guastare per camino. E faccia omni instantia col ditto Raphael che quanto più presto sia possibile fornisca l’opera nostra, de la qual oltra il pagamento gli haveremo gratie; e del chartone lo ringratii molto, dicendoli che ‘l ci sarà carissimo, e non lo faremo colorire, secondo che de sua parte ci scrive V.
