Carlo Agnello in Rome writes to Francesco Gonzaga in Mantua: Raphael has begun the portrait of the elephant requested of him.

[. . .] Del retratto de lo elephante: spero V. Ex.tia serà ben servita perché Raphael de Urbino, homo excellente, ha tolto la impresa de retrarlo e darmi le misure.
El S.re oratore portugalese hozi mi ha promesso fra dui dì darmi quello del rinocerotto. Quanto sia gentile persona e grande servitore de V. Ex.tia no ‘l potria dire. E' meggio italiano, perchè ha studiato in Italia grande tempo. Me ha pregato lo racomandi a V. Ex.tia. Non seria male che quella le scrivessi una bona littera come la saperà comettere; se dimanda Don Michele de Silva.
