Cecilia Martelli
Cecilia Martelli was born in Florence, where she graduated from the University in History of Art and where she lives. Her interest in Bartolomeo della Gatta followed from her discovery of an unpublished fresco by the artist in a closed convent in Città di Castello; and the artist became the focus of her PhD at “La Sapienza” in Rome. Over the years she has published several articles on the artist in ‘Prospettiva’. In 2013 she published a monographic study of the artist ‘Bartolomeo della Gatta pittore e miniatore tra Arezzo, Roma e Urbino’ (CentroDi, Florence), in which she brought together various interests including the early career of Luca Signorelli, the 15th century activity in the Sistine Chapel and illuminated manuscripts at the court of Federico di Montefeltro in Urbino.
